Flood alert in Lahore (2025)

Lahore and surrounding areas in Pakistan's Punjab province are currently facing a "very high to extremely high" flood risk due to a combination of regular monsoon rains and water released from Indian dams. The situation is critically evolving, with authorities noting that the next 48 hours are pivotal. The dam on the Ravi River is at 97% capacity, and India has released water, exacerbating the flood risk for areas along the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers. Evacuations are underway, with over 150,000 people shifted to safer areas, and surveillance of army troops and flood management agencies. Residents are urged to heed evacuation orders, avoid rivers and low-lying areas, and follow official alerts closely. This event underscores the severe regional impacts of climate change and transboundary water management challenges
